It's a toss up honestly. If anything 1-2 games.

Sorry Garth…You're out in left field on this one. Nothing wrong with that hit at all. McCormick leaned down and began to turn his head just before the hit. Myers should have received an instigator...

I didn't have time to see the entire video, do you think fratin could of avoided the hit once McCormick changed his body positioning ?

I get you're mad about Scott and Kaleta. So am I.

But dude, every check isn't illegal. Please stop calling out something in every single Sabres game. You're making it worse.

I've certainly seen worse. More or less for me, good on Myers there.

Overall he made contact to the head, it use to be a good hockey hit but if your going full anti-hitting like this league is it should be a 3 game suspension.

I just can't bring it upon myself to female dog about that hit just because the NHL is so inconsistent. Clean hit, in my opinion.

If Sabres Patrick Kaleta or John Scott delivered this same hit to Frattin, would there be a disciplinary hearing scheduled?

Tis' because they are complete morons, who are about as good at hockey as Rickard Wallin and Aki Berg.

You're confusing the NHL with the NFL. They aren't anti-hitting here. They are anti-hitting star players. Sorry for the snarky comment, but they don't yet have a rule where any head contact is illegal. currently TARGETED head contact is illegal, and where the head is the principal point of contact.

In this case the head was not targeted, the player receiving the check lunged, and the primary point of contact was shoulder to shoulder.

48.1 Illegal Check to the Head – A hit resulting in contact with an opponent's head where the head is targeted and the principal point of contact is not permitted. However, in determining whether such a hit should have been permitted, the circumstances of the hit, including whether the opponent put himself in a vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously with the hit or the head contact on an otherwise legal body check was avoidable, can be considered.

48.2 Minor Penalty - For violation of this rule, a minor penalty shall be assessed.

48.3 Major Penalty - There is no provision for a major penalty for this rule.

48.4 Game Misconduct Penalty – There is no provision for a major penalty for this rule.

48.5 Match Penalty - The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a match penalty if, in his judgment, the player attempted to or deliberately injured his opponent with an illegal check to the head.

If deemed appropriate, supplementary discipline can be applied by the Commissioner at his discretion.

48.6 Fines and Suspensions – Any player who incurs a total of two (2) game misconducts under this rule, in either regular League or playoff games, shall be suspended automatically for the next game his team plays. For each subsequent game misconduct penalty the automatic suspension shall be increased by one game.

If deemed appropriate, supplementary discipline can be applied by the Commissioner at his discretion (refer to Rule 28).

How can you tell what a player was actually targeting except for a blatant elbow? You really can't, if at the moment of impact the player moves a little you can't really say he moved his target.

I don't know what the NFL does as I don't watch it nor pay attention to it, I do know double standards though and if you inject that into the league you might as well make it as fake as the WWE.

This league was so much better before all the rule changes, if they would have just enforced hooking and holding it would've been fine.

Lupul should have been suspended for targeting even though he took out his own teammate.

Didn't think that Frattin hit was bad at all. If you're going to start suspending guys for hits like that, then players will be getting calls from Shanahan daily.

Absolutely. I think he shouldn't be allowed to play ever again. Just ask the Canucks blogger. She ran with it for 5 days. I think it's because the League loves the Leafs and allow to get away with murder. It's just not fair really.

I actually think they should. You need to get get rid of negligence as well as intent. This hit was negligent, and should be suspended, albeit for 1 or 2 games as opposed to the 5 to 10 we've been seeing handed out. He lunged out and hit the head. That should be suspended. It's the only way to get it out of the game, period.

Should be like the NFL, player gets an unsportsmanlike flag for a hit to the head. Only suspensions when a repeat offender. Players in the NHL should be assessed a 5 minute penalty for a head shot.

Can't tell if the hit makes principal contact with the head but I certainly don't think it was blindside. Myers was looking right at him and turned to get the puck - Not a blindside hit at all.

And most of the time that NFL player gets a fine as well. For some reason, the NHL can't/won't go that route.
